Abstract: Supercapacitor is only used for high power and can give burst of power in very less time. A company dealing in manufacturing of supercapacitor named as Illinois Capacitor Incorporation has claimed a supercapacitor of capacitor 3500F till now, which is having operating current 945 amps (for 5 sec, up to half rated discharge) and has working temperature range lorm -400C to 600C. Some other example of supercapacitor with their size and ESR is given in Table no 6 in Appendices. These are expensive than batteries but has got other advantages like high power density, cyclic ability, safe, light weight, small in size and environment friendly. Now a day electrodes of supercapacitor can be of three types like metal oxide based, polymer based and carbon based. In polymer based we basically use conducting polymer like polyaniline and in carbon based we use graphene for making composite 41 electrode material. After synthesizing the electrode its charging/discharging capabilities should be checked out and can give an idea about how much time it will take to discharge to its maximum capacity by giving current at constant rate. This can be defined as C rate which is an important parameter for electrode material whether it is related to supercapacitor or battery. Similarly there is another parameter named as E rate which describes the discharged power. Its application includes Computer systems, UPS systems, Power conditioners, Welders. Inverters, Automobile regenerative braking systems, Power supplies, Cameras, Power generators, KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) used in Fl (formula one) car races for accelerating cars.
