Abstract: The piles on sloping ground are subjected to lateral loads which are more predominant than vertical loads. In this report, various modes of failures of laterally loaded piles are briefly described. The consequences of the failures can be catastrophic and is imperative that the failure modes are analysed. Various experiments were conducted on piles embedded on slopes, by providing lateral load at the tip of the pile. The different parameters considered for the tests are L/D ratio of pile, edge distance, slope angles and relative density. Numbers of combinations were obtained by varying values of each of the above mentioned parameters. Experiments were carried out for each combination and the results were compared by plotting graphs and hence conclusions were made. The results of each analysis are studied and a literature review of the same has been made. Variations on the lateral displacement and the allowable lateral load for laterally loaded piles on sloping ground with the change in above mentioned parameters are explained in the report.
