Abstract: Industries play a major role in polluting the environment. Paper industry is one among them. The industry is dealing with a large amount of processed water under mill operations conditions. Processing stages which cause pollution in paper industry are washing at different stages; screening, bleaching operation etc. Waste water released from paper industry affect many aspect of the environment. The treatment of effluent in aeration tank operating at steady state was studied. The fine pore submerged diffusers were used to aerate the effluent in aeration unit. Presence of toxic pollutants affects aquatic system and also due to low dissolved oxygen. So in this dissertation work, experiments were conducted to aerate pulp and paper mill effluent in aeration unit at different agitation speed, temperature and at different air flow rate and measure dissolved oxygen at every interval of time. And from experimental data we calculated rate of gas-liquid mass transfer at different agitation speed, temperature and air flow rate.
