Abstract: This report is a study on Z Source Inverter. Traditional Voltage-source inverter is limited by its only voltage step down operation. In order to add an extra boosting flexibility while keeping the number of active semiconductors unchanged, a new family of voltage-type inverters namely Z-source inverter (ZSI) came into picture. The Z-source inverter overcomes the conceptual and theoretical barriers and limitations of the traditional voltage-source inverter and current-source inverter and provides a novel power conversion concept. The Z-source concept can be applied to all dc-to-ac, ac-to-dc, ac-to-ac, and dc-to-dc power conversion. The operating principle of the converter and the various control strategies are discussed.
