Side effects of antiinflammatory drugs used clinically and a fewer number of drugs available in the market for the treatment of cancer make this field interesting for synthetic chemists. Various laboratories all over the world are engaged in search of safer antiinflammatory drugs and potent anticancer compounds, which may be developed as anticancer drugs. Efforts have been made in this direction, which are illustrated in this thesis. A number of acridine derivatives have been synthesised and evaluated for their antiinflammatory, analgesic and kinase inhibition activities. Reaction kinetics of various acridine sulpha drugs derivatives, acridine sulphonyl hydrazide derivatives and a few pyrazine and pyridine derivatives have also been studied. For the sake ofclarity the work embodied in this thesis has been divided into six chapters. First chapter consists of two parts i.e 1.1 and 1.2 1.1 Heterocyclic compounds as antiinflammatory and/ or anticancer agents: It deals with the recent work reported in the literature on the synthesis, antiinflammatory and/ or anticancer activity evaluation of acridine, pyridine and pyrazine derivatives. 1.2 It describes recent work reported in the literature on reaction kinetic studies of acridine, pyridine and pyrazine derivatives. Second chapter: Various materials and instruments used are listed in this chapter. . .........................en_US
