Abstract: Dam safety program of a country is an integral part of the dam break analysis because the casualities and destruction caused as a result of the large, sudden, unexpected and uncontrollable dam break flood waves is immeasurable. These dam break flood waves forms a breach in the dam leading to the failure of the dam and therefore a complete hydraulic analyses is required to be done to evaluate the effects of the dam breached failure on the human lives, structures, flora and fauna so that safety measures can be prepared in case of such disaster. For this dam break analysis, careful estimation of the dam break flood along the downstream is done to determine the amount and timing of the dam break flood waves at different sections of the reach. In this study, a dam break analysis of Rangit Dam is done using the hydrodynamic module of the MIKE11 software (developed by Danish Hydraulic Institute) to estimate the amount of the dam break flood at different sections of the downstream reach along with the speed, water level, discharge and its timing to reach that particular section. Also, the sensitivity analyses is done which forms the main part of this study to find the effect of the hydrodynamic parameters, i.e., manning’s roughness coefficient and breach width on the discharge, water profiles, speed, time to failure of the dam break flood waves.
