dc.description.abstract | The demand of energy in the world is increasing rapidly. Hydropower projects are emerging as a solution for sustainable, green, environment friendly, long term and cost effective source of renewable energy globally including in Nepal. Selecting the appropriate hydropower projects and conducing environment for construction are critical for investment that have impact of different factors and policies. The aim of this study is to develop and selecting appropriate parameters to the performance of hydropower development and facilities to improve their performance. Nepal having a huge potential of Hydropower is lagging on its exploitation, the study tried to cover and analysed the existing Hydropower development polices, acts, the Regulations and barriers incepted to Hydropower development. The study has been met to list out the barriers to Hydropower developments. Weak policy framework, absence of a fully empowered regulating commission and limited private and foreign investment in hydropower sector has been found very serious problems. The basis of sustainability Indicators (i.e., Social, Environmental, Economic and Governance) are the standard indicators of the study. The survey has been carried out to get clear information from different stakeholders such as NEA officers, DoED officers, project developers, experts, engineers, professors, financers and other parties involving in any process of hydropower development in Nepal. The detail results with its description has been shown in the report. From the study, the social & environmental issues in hydropower development were found prominent barriers. Other barriers such as construction & operational issues, country issues and financial issues has been discussed in the report. The study would be of immense help in sustainable development of hydropower project development in Nepal. | en_US |
