Smart gird is being very useful in power industry for its vast potential and it provides various benefits which include efficient management, self- healing of the network, smart metering system, load forecasting and dynamic pricing. Single source based generation has been used for electrification of remote areas from past few decades. Modern days power system network across the world are employing the computer aided monitoring, control and management in IT industries and communication technique used in data processing is being utilized to make the electric distribution network to smarter one. This dissertation report focuses on design aspect of smart generation and smart utilization of power system network existing in IIT Roorkee with special focus on distribution automation and management, which leads the power system network to smarter one. The function of distribution automation and management system are investigated in detail for construction smart grid. This dissertation report consist sixteen distribution substation to integrate it into smart grid system to satisfy the consumer need. To check the reliability of distribution network seven different Simulink model are developed to verify the result. The smart grid concepts can have usual application for grid system based on renewable energy resourcesen_US
