Electro-kinetics is the study of relative movement of two different charged phases interacting with each other. When the transportable part of the electric double layer is acted upon by shear forces electro-kinetic phenomena occurs. Then, the material attached with the charged surface moves in a certain direction on application of these electrical forces, the free ions present in the transportable phase of the electric double layer go through a transition in motion in the direction opposite to that of motion of the charged surface along with the solvent and hence making the electrolyte solution move on application of electrical forces. On the contrary, an electric field can be generated by making the charged surface move in relative motion with the electric double layer’s diffusive part. There can be numerous types of phenomena occurring as a result of relative movement of charged particles or bodies with electrolyte solution. Most of these phenomena can be categorized into the following mechanisms:en_US
