Issue Date: 2000
Abstract: Dam foundations very often consist of rock. Various factors such as, rock type, discontinuities, joints sets and orientation of joints, influence the strength and deformation behaviour of rockmass. For realistic design of foundations, these factors must be taken into account. In the present work, analysis of dam foundation is presented. Finite element method is used for analysis. Following aspects are considered. Influence of rotation of principal stress direction (ii) Influence of confining pressure For the analysis incorporating these aspects, a PC based computer program has been developed. From the analysis, variation of Young's modulus, confining pressure, horizontal and vertical displacements with loading are presented. Differences among the above parameters for various cases of joint inclinations and rotation of principal stress direction are clearly brought
