Abstract: A set of 219 experimental runs were obtained in the study of flow through bottom racks, convering the upstream Froude number range from 0.1 to 1.5 and discharge from 0.010 m3/sec. to 0.076 m3/sec. The experiments were conducted for two values of spacing between bars as 0.004 m and 0.028 m and parameter (a/L) ranged from 0.041 to 0.102. The values of coefficients C1 and C2 depends upon flow and rack geometry parameters (F1, E, a/L). The approach, for the analysis of flow through bottom racks, taking constant specific energy, when the effective head is equal to specific energy is found better performer. Further, specific energy loss is studied and it is found that the loss is significant for some cases, so it can not be neglected. This will require a modified approach, which includes concept of variant specific energy, for studying the hydraulic behaviour of bottom racks.
