Title: NUMERICAL SOLUTION FOR WIND-INDUCED FORCES ON BRIDGE DECKS
Authors: Kumar, Rajesh
Keywords: CIVIL ENGINEERING;WIND-INDUCED FORCES;BRIDGE DECKS;WIND TUNNEL TESTING
Issue Date: 1999
Abstract: A procedure for numerically simulating wind induced forces on bridge deck sections is presented in this chapter. The procedure entails solving the governing flow equations of motion using the finite element method. The two dimensional, steady, incompressible form of flow equations has been solved. Numerical solution of flow equations yield flow profiles and pressure distribution in the flow field. Flow pattern is then analysed for calculating force coefficients on the deck section. Force coefficients have been obtained for both laminar and turbulent flow at different angle of attack. At this stale it can viewed as a supplement of wind tunnel testing. Key words : Finite element method, force coefficient, flow profile, bridge deck, wind tunnel testing.
