dc.description.abstract | Man is a slave to water. Water has been the driving force of every civilization. Today inadequate or unsafe water generally presents one of the most formidable stumbling blocks to national development and increased liVing standards. It is in recognition of these fact that the following project was taken up in Dehradun. Reddish water was coming out from various hand pumps of Sahaspur block area after some period' of their installation. Chemical analysis shows that the water contains iron. It was suspected that pipe interaction is getting corroded underground due to interaction with sub-surface water in presence of soil. Hence experiments were conducted to study the effect of subsurface water and soil of the sites on the M.S and G.I. washers representing hand pump material. It was observed that M.S washer was getting partially corroded in presence of soil and Water whereas the G.I. washer was itself not getting corroded but a reddish deposition was forming over it which may be contributing to the iron in site water | en_US |
