Abstract: Laboratory investigation on phyllite, obtained from Tehri Dam Project site have been reported herein. In the present study, an attempt has been made to determine physical properties, minerological composition and uniaxial compressive strength value. Also determinedthe failure pattern whether Brittle and 3/rear. Thin section studies revealed that phyllite mainly contains biotite quartz and felspar. Firstly, determined the UCS values for single cycle and multiple cycle and then obtained the value of modulus of deformation and critical strain (%). Plot the variation between modulus of deformation, no. of cycles and critical strain with no. of cycles. Uniaxial compressive strength varies from approximately 24 Mpa to 50 Mpa and failure pattern is Brittle and :Shear. It is observed that modulus of deformation is decreaselas the no. of cycle increases and critical strains increases as the no. of cycle increases. Also the value of critical strain for phyllite xvc_.K approximate between (0,6 to 1.2%).
