In this work an attempt has been made to investigate the improvement of Small Signal Stability using SVC. For this purpose state space model for the 3 machine, 10 bus system is developed, in which a SVC has been installed in the middle of a transmission line. Reduced order model of the system is obtained for ease of analysis and design. Two operating conditions are considered, to show the robustness of the controller. To improve the damping of the system, a damping controller for SVC has been designed. The improvement in the system damping has been investigated by eigen value analysis and the results shows the effectiveness of the designed controller.en_US
