A vast amount of literature is available on the topic of soil piping. But only a few investigators have made studies related to seepage erosion with progressive increase in upstream head and the role of slit. In the present thesis experiments are conducted to study the seepage erosion around levees. An experimental set-up is planned in which the test section is a confined section, which acts as a base of a levee. Initially no loading was introduced above the test section but later stage it was introduced. On applying loading, when water was allowed to pass through the porous media of the test section, erosion took place along with slit development and scour hole formation. From the present study it was observed that there is erosion with increasing-head-of Ovate-rwhich-is accompanied by slit development and scow hole formation. Slit length increases with increasing head of water when stress is less but scour hole gets reduced if head of water is increased beyond critical head. Also porosity gets increased with increasing head of water.en_US
