Abstract: Due to its simplicity and reliability the current source inverter has been applied in many industrial applications. Current source inverter (CSI) fed drives are employed in high power applications The continuously increasing cost of energy attracts the investigators for minimizing the losses. In this thesis the performance of current source inverter fed induction motor drive has been investigated with minimum loss control. With this loss minimization control technique the total losses in the induction machine is reduced and can be operated at maximum efficiency.and power factor is improved compared to the conventional drive Simulation study has been done for the converter using MATLAB. The comparison between the performance of induction machine with minimum loss control and slip regulator control has also been studied. Various aspects were covered partially, though enough study has been done so as to predict the behaviour of the system. The conventional CSI drives suffer from drawbacks such as harmonic resonance, unstable operation at low speed ranges, and torque pulsation. By putting an active filter across the load terminal the drawbacks can be eliminated. In this thesis the performance of CSI fed R-L load with active filters is discussed.
