Hybrid sources of energies are rapidly increasing in power generating systems due to their viable option and wide spread public support for renewable energy. The goal of this thesis is to evaluate wind-diesel energy system through computer simulation studies. The primary focus of this study is the development of dynamic models for a standalone wind energy conversion system and a diesel generation system. The developed model of the wind energy conversion system consists of dynamic models for a wind turbine as well as an electric generator. A detailed model of the wind turbine is presented. The electric generator, driven by the wind turbine, is a line-excited induction generator suitable for hybrid systeth and grid-connected operations. A dynamic model for the diesel generation system is achieved by integrating models of a diesel engine and synchronous generator driven by it. A set of mathematical equations are used to model a synchronous machine acting as the electric generator for the diesel generation system. The developed system is capable of simulating the dynamics of the wind-diesel generation system, demonstrating its ability to meet load power requirements. The dynamic models of the wind energy conversion system and the diesel generation system are simulated in simulation tool called visual simulation (VisSim 6.0). In all electrical simulations d-q axis convention has been followed with the reference frame as synchronous reference frame. Simulation results indicate the suitability of the developed model to study the dynamic behavior of the hybrid generation system under different load conditions. iiien_US
