Issue Date: 2005
Abstract: Voltage sags are highly undesirable for sensitive loads especially in high tech industries; it is a challenging task to correct. the voltage sag so. that the desired load voltage magnitude can be maintained during the voltage disturbances. This thesis proposes to study the sources of voltage sag, the techniques. of correcting the supply voltage sag in radial distribution system and harmonics elimination and reactive power compensation by three power electronic based 'devices . namely .. DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator), APF (Active Power Filter) and .DVR (Dynamic 'Voltage Restorer). Thesis aims to model these devices in electromagnetic transient programs using SimPowerSystems/PSB/Simulink Thesis addressed the possible models of DSTATCOM namely DSTATCOM with detailed model and DSTATCOM -with simplified model; both the models were compared and verified. A new PWM based control scheme is implemented in DSTATCOM detailed model case and- also in the implementation of DVR. Current harmonics elimination and reactive power compensation by APF is achieved, -and mathematical equations were presented. Furthermore, Active Power Filter design specifications & circuit parameters, power quality standards and simulation results of custom power devices are included in this thesis.
