dc.description.abstractPolymers have great importance in our life. Polymers like urea-formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, and polyoximethylene are manufactured from formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is produced mainly from catalytic partial oxidation of methanol. In the present work, we prepared catalysts (vanadium based supported on titania and magnesia, and silver supported on iron oxide) by dry mixing method in which their respective nitrates have been mixed and then calcined at 7000 C. Characterization of the catalytic materials have been done by XRD, SEM and TGA. The activity of these catalysts for the formaldehyde formation has been found to be appropriate as far as selectivity and conversion concern. From the plot interpretation, 10%V205/TiO2 calcined for 16 hours at 7000 C, proved to be most promising for the desired process.en_US
