Issue Date: 2007
Abstract: A hydro electric power plant has variety of devices working in unison in order to produce electricity. For the successful production of electric power different parameters related to the power plant such as the hydraulic power input, voltage, current, frequency and generated power output, speed of the generator and other parameters need to be precisely measured and one of them, like electric power output, needs to be controlled. The thesis work is carried out on an experimental hydro electric power plant setup. Foundation Fieldbus enabled transmitters are used for the precise measurement of the above listed parameters as the digital technology of Fieldbus perfectly replaces the conventional 4-2OmA analog signal technique used so far. In addition to measurement, on-line monitoring of parameters, namely water flow, inlet head, outlet head, control valve position, water level and temperature can be performed which enables open loop control of the power output as well as in the measurement of Efficiency of the turbine
