Abstract: | The introduction of performance based engineering has placed an increased emphasis on realistic simulation of structural behavior under extreme loading. Instead of the traditional perspective and non-transparent code rules to ensure safety of life, the next generation codes will include additional performance indicators. Such predictions require comprehensive numerical modeling and realistic representation of non-linear structural behavior. Although extensive research is currently being conducted in this area, uncertainty exists in every aspect of analysis. Hence, the prediction of structural performance must be done by using reliability analysis. In this present study, uncertainty quantification is performed on a soil profile taken from final report on soil investigation for Rosa thermal power plant at Shahjanpur, U.P. For this, Rosenblueth's 2K+1 method is used. To get free field response of. soil, modeling of soil profile is done by ANSYS. For plotting of response spectrum, Seismo signal software is used. By this, sources of uncertainties are identified and quantification is done by statistical parameters. This study can be used for uncertainty quantification of any type of soil profile if parameters of soil are well known. |
