Subsurface water under the influence of surface water is generally available round the year. Such water can be tapped from the banks of river and lake. Drinking water can be abstracted directly from rivers and lakes, treated and supplied. The water can also be abstracted from shallow wells near the bank. Such a water is purified through River Bank Filtration and is of occasionally disinfected prior to supply. Infiltration wells are quite common in Haridwar. In this project an attempt has been made to compare water quality of Infiltration water (Subsurface water) and river and canal water (surface water). The aquifer properties have been evaluated. Columns with aquifer material and sand have been run with canal water to investigate extent of mineralization and E.Coli removal. The batch experiments with aquifer material and canal water are suggestions of leaching potentials of sand or aquifer material.en_US
