The dissertation mainly deals with the Describing Function analysis of the effects of saturation and hysteresis in amplidyne voltage regulation system. The input output characteristic incorporating the non-linearity has been representc by various mathematical expressions for the derivation of the describing function. The Nyquist diagrams have been plotted to study the stability of the system. It also describes the steady state and transient characteristics of the machine. To the best of the knowledge of the author the following analysis approaches are original 1) Use of modified bessel function in the derivation of describing function for saturation by an exponential rise and derivation of Describing Function therefrom. 2) Representing of Hysteresis loop of the machine con-sidering the non-linear brush contact resistance and derivation of Describing Function. iiien_US
