Abstract: As the population of world is increasing day by day large buildings i.e. atria are being constructed. The smoke generated from fires in atria causes hazardous effects and produce hindrance in evacuation of the buildings. The smoke generated from modern synthetic materials is harmful and produce obstacle to fire extinction. Therefore architects and engineers must consider fire safety while designing atrium so that fire protection systems can be placed in the buildings to reduce the fire harmful effects. It is necessary to predict the smoke movement generated from fire combustion. Design of an atrium differ from old buildings and differ from one to another. It is difficult to control smoke movement in such structures. Smoke movement is also effected parameters which include the flare height and wind speed; experimental studies for fire in atrium are very difficult and require more capital. Therefore computer simulation methods are best method to determine the important parameters.
