Alternator regulation by varying the exciter field current with the help of voltage regulators employing electro-mechanical principles is well known. This dissertation deals with voltage regula.. tors of the "static" type i.e, those having no moving parts, the circuits comprising of static apparatus such as transformers, condensers , istors, gaseous discharge. tubes and transistors etc. Advantages of this type of regulator over the conventional type and limitations and difficulties experienced with the latter are discussed. Static voltage regulators employing transduc« tor and electronic principles are described. The design and performance of a static voltage regulator employing transistors built by the author in the laboratory is discussed in the concluding chapters.en_US
