Abstract: In presenting this dissertation on the capacitor motor, the writer is aware of the fact that he is entering a field in which there are already many excellent works. However, an attempt is made to present the subject from a somewhat new standpoint. The writer's aim has been to present so much of the theory as i necessary to understand the phenomena of these motors, so far as these phenomena relate to the perfor-mance of single phase Induction Motors. For the most part this dissertation is the calculation of the optimum values of the capacitances in a single phase Capacitor Motor and developes the various relationships. A direct method of calculation is employed, based on the theory of Symmetrical Components for two phase unbalanced motors. This method gives accurate results independent of empirical or restricted premises. The object of this work is to give a mathematical theory of the same and to. present the results of calculations in a given :rotor of ri h.p. , 220 volt, 50 cis, 4-pole, I-ph., Capacitor typ
