This dissertation deals with the design of land based oil pipe line for time varying discharge. 0 Based on the available cost function a model has been developed and solved for exponentially and parabolically varying demand with time. The results match with those earlier. The problem has been extended to the case where an additional pipe line can be constructed in the future. Optimal solution for this model has also been obtained. The sensitivity' of optimal pipe line diameter to variation in discharge and, interest rate have also been studied. Conclusion arrived at have been listed and some directions for future design have also been suggested.en_US
