In the present dissertation, an effort has been made to control the temperature and level of continuously flowing water in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR). A CSTR and a digital controller using 8036 p.p have been developed for implementing a Proportional-Integral-.Derivative (PID) control scheme, through software, to control the temperature. A level transducer, using capacitance-to-frequency conversion principle and a valve, coupled with a stepper motor, for controlling the level have also been developed. For controlling the temperature, a 14 half-controlled SCR bridge has been fabricated. The firing circuit required for the bridge and an A/D converter module have also been developed for the above purpose. A precise control of tem-perature in the range of i 0.25°C has been observed. A floating pointarithmetic has been developed which can be used for accurate calculations by PID control scheme. Various other routines, necessary for level control, have also been developed, but these are not used for the present work. The man- m/c communication has been achieved through a CRT. Some functional commands have been developed for this purpose.en_US
