Issue Date: 1987
Abstract: In this dissertation an attempt has boon made to calculate the dynamic overvoltage due to sudden load rejection at the receiving—end and switching surge voltage using travelling wave technique. The various types of overvoltagos that may arise on a transmission network are discussed in chapter—I. The merits and demerits of various methods and techniques for the calculation of switching surge over-voltage, namely, field tests, analog and digital techniques, have been given in chapter-II. Subsequently an indepth study of dynamic overvoltage and switching surge overvoltage using travelling wave tech-nique have been made for the following conditions: (a) For dynamic overvoltage i) Sudden load rejection ii) Shunt componsation iii) Switched reactor iv) Series compensation (b) For switching surge overvoltage i) Step input ii) Sinusoidal input iii) Lightning impulse input.
