dc.description.abstractMicroprocessor based systems are being used increapingly in nearly all the walks of life. Their usage is wide spread, from house--hold gadgets to sophisticated missiles. In order to be able to design even simple microprocessor based systems, it is necessary to understand completely the working of the microprocessor chip and allied periphe-rals. For this, a 'hand on' experience is a must. The aim of this dissertation was to get this experience. Micro-processor based digital IC testers were a natural choice of the practical system selected for design because of the necessity of testing IC chips befoT'e actually using them. The basic unit used was HIL-2961 microprocessor trainer, an INTEL 8085A based system. A brief description of this twit is given in Chapter I . Chapter 2 deals with the under-lying principles of IC testing alongwith an initial test programme for IC 7k00. A. ORT terminal is-a very useful peripheral device for increasing the user efficiency in communicating with the microcomputer. The IC tester developed in this dissertation operates through ADM-3A, a CRT terminal.en_US
