Abstract: This dissertation deals with the experimental and theore-tical studies on a Microprocessor based Chopper fed Closed Loop DC Drive system. The separately excited DC Motor is fed by a single quadrant current cummutated chopper. The closed loop control is achieved by incorporating an inner current loop and an outer speed loop. The control scheme is based on INTEL 8085 Microprocessor. The theoretical studies are conducted by simulating the drive system on a DEC 2050 Computer and the results obtained are verified experimentally. Chapter 1 consists of Introduction, Chapter 2 the litera-ture review. Chapter 3 bring out the analysis and design of power circuit along with waveforms. Chapter 4 deals with the control scheme implementation by the microprocessor. Chapter 5 consists of Simulation studies to design the controllers. Chapter 6 gives the experimental results of the drive system and Chapter 7 gives the conclusions together with the suggestions to improve the performance. .
