dc.description.abstractThe dissertation relates to the analysis of Iran. eient phenomena in d.c. drive motors employing pulsed supply control circuit. A critical review of the published work in field of statically controlled d.c. drives is given in chapter I. As a pre-analyeie exercise in order to bring out the special factors included in this type of control# using thyristor as the main circuit element, various types of choppers used in drive control, associated problems like commutation etc. are discussed in chapters II and III. Chapter IV gives the analysis for transient per-formanoe of d. o. drives. The analysis covers the following two cases. (1) A pulsed-®apply to the field of d.o. motor, and the armature being supplied from a d.c. source. (2) A pulsed-supply to the armature of D.C. motor, and the field being separately excited from a D.C. source. Circuits equations for these two modes of control have been established. Solutions of these cirouite-equations have been obtained for current and torque. For a typical laboratory --raaohine, current, torque and speed during dynamic transient process have been computed. Practical circuits for pulsed-supply control in the field and armature circuits using Morgan chopper were constructed. Dynamic characteristics of the machine using these control circuits, in conjunction with a 1 E.P. d. c.maohine were recorded. Comparison of actual experimental results and those predicted using the analysis presented in this dieaer-- tation has been given,en_US
