Issue Date: 1973
Abstract: As the system complexity-and size increases, the necessity of having useful techniques for evaluating system reliability is greatly felt. The present study emphasizes the techniques of modeling and evaluation of complex system reliability. Chapter one deals with the concepts of reliability, the necessity of reliability evaluation, and fundamentals of modeling and simulation, in brief. Chapter two includes a review of the available literature on modeling and evaluation of system reliab-ility. Chapter three contains the criteria of modeling of system reliability and its mathematical formulation, in details. In chapter four, the monte Carlo method for evaluation of system reliability is discussed. The algorithm as developed by Nagel has been discussed with special reference to the criteria- of importance sampling. Messinger's ;approach has been used to develop an algorithm for evaluat-ion of complex system's reliability. This is an extension work. The- favourable and weak points of monte/Carlo simula-tion technique have been brought out clearly. The analysis of the results obtained with a view to compare it with other approaches. In chapter five, a detailed algorithm, based on graph theory has been developed to evaluate the reliability of a complex system.
