Issue Date: 1972
Abstract: The dissertation deals with an analytical and experimental investigation of proximity effect of. bus-bar in nearly steel structures. Analytical expressions for eddy current losses have been derived for Cylindrical rods placed in transverse and axial fields. These expressions have been derived taking into account the flux density variation along the radius and length of the rod, which to the authora knowledge have not been derived so far. The experimental investigation of temperature rise and loss measure-ment (by heat transfer method) has been presented firstly with a single phase and then with a three phase set-np. The calculated and measured results are in reasonably good agreement, The temper-. ature rise measurement has also been taken on a grid structure (used in beams for reinforcement) which has not been reported so far in literature. An experimental method for the determination of surface convection heat transfer coefficient has also been suggested.
