Issue Date: 1970
Abstract: It is needless to emphasize the importance and role of electric power in the modern industrial complex and for domestic uses. The consumption of electric power has Increased by leaps and bolo in the last decade. Power systems are becoming more complex in nature, therefore, to maintain the continuity of electric supply, the reliability' of a power system assumes great lmpor- tanee. The also of the present dissertation I $ to bring out the different aspects of the reliability analysis of a power system and to provide in detail the merits and demerits of the Solution techniques of the associated problems. In Chapter 2 the concept of reliability and some important reliability parameters are defined and discussed. Subsequent chapter deals with the capacity outages and their frequency of the generating units, which in turn tells that what should be the capacity in stand by for a particular system. In Chapter 4, the f owgraph technique is applied to *valuate the different reliability parameters of some systems. ?.nal3y,, the Markov chain process and the block diagram reduction technique using Markov process are applied to evaluate the availability of some transmission system of different configurations. Illustrative examples have been given for all the above eases to provide a comparative study of the different techniques used.
