One of the major problems arising in inter- connected power systems is that of co-ordinating voltage regulators and governors to obtain suitable dynamic. stability characteristics. In the present work this has been achieved by considering the regulator and governor gains as adjustable parameters and determining stability regions on the t pa ramet a r-pl ane' using a method due to gil j ak. The machine has been represented for small dis-turbances by a linearized form of Park's equation and the characteristic equation obtained in this manner expressed as a function of the adjustable parameters. Suitable stability regions have then been defined in terms of the roots of this characteristic equation. The results for various power outputs have been given in the form of stability contour diagrams The effect of varying the tie-line reactance has also been considered, and its effect on the performance deter-mined. Finally, a saturation type of nonlinearity in the voltage regulator has also been taken into account and frequencies of system oscillation determined.en_US
