Abstract: The magnetic properties of ferromagnetic materials such as permeability, nature of magnetizing current and care losses are greatly influenced by the presence of polarizing field when act-ing simultaneously with the main magnetizing field'. The effect of both unidirection and alternating polarizing fields acting at right angles to the main field has been studied onasample of C.R.G,O. Silicon ,steel-nam. The study reveals that transverse polarizing field affects the exciting current wave shape. The wave is more-;peaky in nature, free from even harmonic components and richer in third and fifth harmonics .d The tips of dynamic BH loops are enlarged on account of the presence of polarizing field, and the permeability of the material decreases with increase in polarizing induction. The net iron loss consisting of both hysteresis loss and eddy current loss, increases in presence of transverse polarizing fields. The quantitative explanations of the results are given, but they do not reveal the exact nature of phenomenon. As a whole phenomenon of transverse magnetization has distinctive features, which are of quite interest and advantageous.
