Abstract: Energy is one of the most important inputs in the process of development .it is the most universal measure of all kind of work by human beings and nature. Small hydropower is one of the mostly used methods for energy production being non-consumptive, no radioactive and non-polluting use of water resources and ideal for development areas which are located in remote and far away from national grid. The success of small hydro power plants depends on the cost effective technology. Hydro mechanical equipment is one of the critical component of a SHP plant. The field-testing of hydro mechanical equipment is necessary to know the performance of existing plant accessories such as hydro turbines, gates, valves and governor. The Literature about performance evaluation of small hydropower equipment revels that a lot of work has been carried out to develop the efficient technology especially for hydro mechanical equipment. The successful implementation of small hydro project equipment depends on the availability of specifies equipment with required characteristics duly tested and certified. It is therefore, become necessary to prepare suitable guidelines for testing of equipment at site under different working conditions Under the present dissertation various aspects of testing of small hydro power turbines for their specification and characteristics are studied, in order to prepare suitable guideline for testing of the small hydropower equipments. Based on the international and national standards, model and field-testing of SHP iii equipments are discussed. Attempt has been made to conduct performance testing of hydro mechanical equipment at sites.
