Lime in conjunction with Surkhi (burnt clay pozzolana) has been used as a construction material through ages notwith standing many a periods of stalemate and unpopularity in its chequered history. The main reason for this uneven backdrop in its utility was the Cement- which, both in terms of stre ngth and setting tine, scored heavily over lime-pozzolana mixtures. Nevertheless the fact femains that these mixtures are best suited to India socio-economic scenario and their usage should be adopted in the construction activity aimed at low cost housing and minor building projects. In the above context it is not all irrelevant if one considers ways and means of improving fresh formulations and delineating specific conditions for their better performance. ........................en_US
