Abstract: Power engineering is the oldest and most traditional of various subgenres within electrical engineering, yet no other area of modern technologies is currently undergoing a dramatic revolution in both technology and industry structure. It is a well known fact;' that the known sources of fossil fuels in the world are depleting very fast and by the turn of the century, man will have to increasingdepend upon renewable sources of energy i.e., wind energy, solar energy (solar PV cells), Biomass energy and small Hydro Power Projects. Power evacuation arrangement is a judicious compromise between the desired level of security of the power system and the cost economics. The power generated in the power station has to be transmitted through transmission and distribution lines to the user. Sometimes, secondary grid substation has to be constructed before reaching to the utility if the transmission and distribution lines are too long. The economics of generation of electrical energy and the huge demands of power, in modern times requires creation of bigger power houses. The powerhouses may be *: from the load centres as in the case of Hydro Power Houses and transmission network is inevitable. Long and high voltage transmission lines are necessary to transmit huge blocks of power from the sources of generation to the load centres, to interconnect powerhouses for increased reliability of supply, greater system stability and lesser stand by power plant and hence cheaper electric energy. This study presents design of power evacuation systems in a particular secondary grid substation (i.e. 132 kV substation at Bawktlang). This includes design layout of substation equipments, spacing, clearances, protection schemes and selection of ratings of each equipment. One Computer Model has been developed in Microsoft Excel to design an eartmat "for 132kV Substation while another Model has also been developed for estimation of 132kV lines. Both these models are found valuable as compared to the traditional methods, which are not only laborious but also time consuming.
