Abstract: | Many areas of the country are so isolated that extension of the power grid to such areas may not be economical. The providing of electricity in village is important not only for meeting the energy demands of the area but also for improving the quality of life and reducing migration population. from village to cities. The diminishing resources of fuels make it necessary to search for and harness new sources of energy in order to ensure a secured supply of energy to remote villages. Integrated renewable energy systems (IRES) has been found to be the only solution for meeting the energy demands of the people living in highly remote areas considering the solar, biomass, wind and hydro energy resources. In the present study, the various types of model for integrated renewable energy system have been studied and linear programming method has been found suitable for designing a model of remote hilly areas. Accordingly using linear programming method for a remote hilly area considering various consumption related constraints has been developed. Suitability of the developed model has been assessed by carrying out a case study. The model has been found. suitable for a remote hilly area and the same may be applicable to such areas having similar resource-demand combinations. |
