Abstract: Rapid growth in all fronts of human life and the usage of water has been increased by many folds, the problems pertaining to water have been increased tremendously. There is an urgent need for proper understanding, exploration, development and management of water resources that involves large databases of various parameters of the basin as well as the project. India has more than 15% of the world population and 4% of world's water (Indiresan, 2001) that is substantially less than the per capita demand. There are. large parts of the country, where there are neither rivers nor adequate rainfall. Western Rajasthan and main parts of Gujarat are such drought prone areas. All over the country most of the precipitation occurs in a few days of the year and most of it is lost in devastating floods (Indiresan, 2001). Hence, there is an urgent need to conserve and store water to develop large water resources projects so that the water is available to drought prone areas throughout the year. The large water resources projects submerge large parts of land including flora' and fauna. To reduce this negative impact there are rehabilitation action plans to resettle the affected population immediately, other species of wild life and compensatory aforestation. The problem of resettlement and rehabilitation(R&R) of project-affected families (PAF) displaced by the large water resources projects, have muddled the utility of these projects. The Government is bound to provide alternate residential houses and agricultural land with all the civic amenities to the displaced families. These project affected families may also be given all the elements of a quality life and standard of living which they could not have dream in their submergence areas.
