Earthing ensure that a fault to earth produces the same condition as a short circuit between line and neutral cables. The performance of the any system is greatly affected by the state of earthing. In the case of substation, spreading an earthmat in the substation area does earthing. This study presents the design of an earthmat. In order to avoid laborious and repetitive calculations, a worksheet model for optimizing the design of earthmat has been developed in Micro Soft Excel for IEEE Std. 80 1986 & IEEE Std. 80 (proposed) 1996. There has been done a programming in C++ for the method IEEE Std. 80 (proposed) 1996 also. The model is generalized, when data are fed in computer all.the calculations are done automatically including the cost of earth grid.en_US
