The use of aquifers is increasing as both a source of water supply and medium for storing various hazardous wastes. As this usage expands, our knowledge of ground water systems must also expand. Numerical ground water modeling is a tool that can aid in studying ground water problems and can • help increase our understanding of ground water systems. In the present work, a GIS-Assisted Finite Element Model of 2-Dimensional Ground Water Flow using the Galerkin's Approach has been developed. The model has been validated with the analytical solutions. The model could reproduce fairly well the observed piezometric head distribution when applied to an interbasin of 8086.5 sq.km. GRAM, a PC based GIS package developed under NRDMS has been used for the pre and post processing of the model.en_US
