Abstract: The suburbs of Delhi capital region in India, are undergoing rapid expansion and development for which new sources. of water supply should be located. Around the city of Ghaziabad in the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, new colonies such as Vaishali, Kaushambi & Indira -puram have been developed recently for which it has been proposed to develop an external water supply scheme in an area east of the Hindon river, (referred commonly as Cis-Hindon area). The objective of the present study is to locate fresh water aquifers in the Hindon area to supplement the water supply for these three newly created colonies of the Trans Hindon area. To achieve this, hydrogeological and geoelectrical studies of the Cis-Hindon area were 'carried out from the data available from earlier studies. The geomorphic features in the study area have indicated that there has been some eastward and westward shifting in the course of river Hindon from the year 1951 to 1988 with the occurence of oxbow lakes and point bars.
