Netravathy is an important west flowing river in the State originating in the high peaks of Western Ghats at an elevation of 1500 metres flows through Dakshine Kannada district and joins the Arabian Sea. The project contemplates utilisation of Netravathy river waters for power generation by constructing a barrage across Netravathy and a power house near Neerakatte village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. The present study deals with the hydrological investigations, which include assessment of catchment rainfall, yield studies based on gauge data, rainfall-runoff correlations, flow duration curves, power studies and, flood studies. The project has been planned as a run-of-the-river scheme, since large storage cannot be provided due to submerssion and •rehabilitation problems. The maximum, minimum and the average yields of the river are 6044 Mcum (6105 mm), 2097 Mcum (2118 mm) and 3950 Mcum (3990 mm) respectively.en_US
