Issue Date: 1993
Abstract: The application of systems approach to reservoir planning, management and operation is the most important advances made in the field of water resources engineering. A primary role of system analysis is to provide an improved basis for decision making. Of these systems approach, optimization and simulation have gained a great importance due to their flexibility and simplicity in formulation. Optimization may ensure near optimum' solutions in terms of the objective -function and in turn, the optimization results become a base for further analysis using simulation. The present study includes the application of systems approach to check the performance of the Manibhadra dam project. For this purpose two Linear programming. models and simulation model were developed. The first Linear Programming model was considered as a screening model, the results of which were further screened using simulation. The second Linear programming model was developed for the estimation of the excess Live storage and reservoir Live storage capacities needed for drought and wet years respectively.
