Abstract: Indonesia is a large archipelago consisting of 13667 islands. There are eight major island groups and the biggest island is Kalimantan. The study area is situated in the northern to middle part of the South Kalimantan occupying the Southeastern of Kalimantan island. The study area covers a planned area of about 6121 sq.km. in Negara river up to Amuntai. Most of the people live on both sides of rivers. During wet season from Novermber to April all the rivers swell over their banks and inundate large area of their flood plains. These high and abnormal floods cause heavy damage. Minimization ofthe damage can be achieved by flood forecasting and flood warning system. Furthermore daily flow forecasts are also needed to plan the operation of the existing water resources scheme more efficiently. 'he process by which rainfall is converted into runoff is complex and variable both in space and time. Apart from the difficulties of giving a generally correct account of the physical processes, also great difficulties are to the 1arger extent due to the scarcity of data such as, soil properties, soil covers, and land use etc.
