dc.description.abstract'DAMODAR' river rises from the Vill. Chandwa in the Chotanagpur plateau of Western Bihar at an elevation of about 607.0 m from MSL and flows in a south-westerly direc-tion for a distance of 541.0 kilometre, and joins 'Hooghly' river, some 48 km below Calcutta. The catchment area of the river at its mouth is about 22006 km2 of which 1786 km2 is the catchment area of the upper Damodar river just below the confluence with 'Barakar' river. Flood Frequency Analysis of the Annual Peak Discharge series of different stations have been carried out by different methods. Attempt has been- made to fit the data in normal distribution by transforming the original data to normalised form by applying power transformation technique (a) neglecting the effect of Kurtosis, (b) considering the effect of Kurtosis, as the data series are found to be random, skewed and kurt is . The above Flood Frequency Analysis have been utilised to construct a f1cod frequency curve of Damodar Basin, which will give flood values of differ4~nt return periods of any ungaged station within the basin of known catchment area.en_US
